This lovely collection of Antique Japanese Noh Mask are displayed in a classic wood framed shadowbox, ready to hang. The set of three miniature mask are authentic and well over 100 years old. Each of the mask are hand carved wood with gesso. The faces are beautifully hand painted and finished off with glass eyes and natural horse hair.
Noh is a major form of classical Japanese dance-drama theatre that has been performed since the 14th century. Noh is often based on tales from traditional literature with a supernatural being transformed into human form as a hero narrating a story. The antique Japanese Noh Mask collection is framed under glass in a deep shadowbox. The inside is fitted with a natural color linen fabric and the frame is a handsome dark wood moulding with a rich patina.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Japan
MATERIALS: Hand carved wood, gesso and lacquer with glass eyes.
CONDITION: Good condition with minor damage, chipped paint and loss of hair, consistent with their age. The mask have not been examined outside of the frame. See close up photos for more detail.
