This incredible blown glass vessel is part of the “Fossil Series” by American glass artist Brent Kee Young. Encased in heavy clear glass, you’ll find what appears to be layers of earth and sediment filled with impressions of preserved fossilized Trilobites and other specimens. These images are actually three dimensional inclusions in a negative form. Look closely and you’ll see the remarkable detail of each and every marine arthropod, that surround the vessel. The complexity of each figure and the artist ability to achieve this in glass, is truly amazing and was a sensation in the art glass world.
The layers of color are even more dramatic when lit. A nice deep blue color lines the inside of the vessel, giving the deepest parts of the fossil forms and iridescent coloring. This adds to the 3D impressions, giving them a dramatic and very realistic presence. Art glass collectors will be stunned by the quality and the beauty of this piece. Fossil and mineral hunters would also appreciate this work in glass. The artist signature is located on the bottom, as well as the date 1986.
Brent Kee Young (1946 – ) is an American glass artist that creates some of the most innovative and unique works made today. Mr. Young’s pieces can be found in Museum collections around the world, including two pieces in the Smithsonian. His work is highly sought after, with many pieces in private collections, which this piece once was.
