Madame Cleo is a striking sculpture by the late artist Floyd Shaman. Cleo is made of laminated wood, carved, shaped and painted and sitting in an antique chair. Her face is exquisitely painted and features glass eyes and braided hair of wood. The chair appears to be a found piece that the artist altered to incorporate in his work.
Mississippi Delta artist Floyd Shaman was well known for his humorous yet finely crafted figural sculptures. Shaman taught art at the Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. He left academia around 1980 to become a full time sculptor.
