From The Artist…
The story is about appearances. Two people have the appearance of knowing one another yet are wearing masks to hide from each other. They are intertwined Indicating some form of engagement. But the interaction is a push pull, expressing stress and tension. The figures do not look or engage each other directly in the composition but appear to be off somewhere else. The paint application for the background is grated and dragged projecting discomfort. The colors are flat bleak and gloomy echoing emptiness. The story is dark, unsettling, and painful to watch.
