From The Artist…
This series of paintings expresses the complex nature of relationships. These paintings can be considered a merge of figurative, abstract and symbolic styles. In Hey There Over Where the relationship is depicted through the choice of pose, objects and color. Tension is expressed through the poses. The man is holding ‘the chair’ at an awkward angle. Fragility is expresses through the choice of a plastic chair, which is unable to support the weight of the unidentified female whose pose suggests a desire is to find a landing place. Entering into the pictorial field at the top the composition, the movement tumbles across the canvas and exits. Details are used to arrest the eye and draw attention to key points of interest such as the chair. To enhance the tension, various perspectives are used to direct attention upwards and downwards. The setting or background presents a mood of closure verses continuation indicating it was fun while it lasted.
