We chose the title of this Nik Puspurica painting The Horseman. It’s a handsome mid century painting and one of the artist best examples of his work while he lived in New York. The look and style of this painting is splendid. The pinks, reds and orange colors are classic for this time period. If you own a mid century modern home or collect mid century art, this is a superb choice.
This painting appears to have been influenced by the work of Italian artist Girogio de Chirico (1888-1978). Specifically de Chirico’s work between 1909 and 1920. During this time de Chirico and another Italian artist Carlo Cara started the Metaphysical Art movement or scuola metafisica. This style of painting depicted Italian architecture of buildings and archways with skewed lines. The paintings were void of people and usually included a statue or sculpture. Thus the artists created a visionary world of the mind, beyond physical reality, hence the name. This significant art movement was a major influence on Surrealist artist in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
The Horseman painting is a signed original painting on canvas, that comes directly from the artist estate. His signature and the date appear on the front in the lower left. Be sure to see our other Puspurica original paintings and watercolors currently available.
