Robot Electro 38 aka The Tester, is another unique piece by Van Dusen Designworks. This colossal figure is made up of vintage and found objects that have been repurposed to make this remarkable robot sculpture. There are so many components utilized in this assemblage, that we lost counts.
The electronic brain, as it were, is a vintage thermal relay style-TH, similar to those used in railroad signals. The relay which sits under a glass dome, has been modified to light up with a single orange LED. The chrome and glass lens eyes are lit in red and blue (Cyan). This color combination harkens back to the 3-D anaglyph glasses used in the 1950’s in movie theaters. This allowed the viewer to see a 3D movie in a more realistic viewing experience.
Other components include a Union Rectifier switch as a body, which is internal lit with LED’s. Mounted in the front of the body is a vintage Graf Perfex Anastigmat camera lens. Industrial clamps are used as supports for the American made vintage vacuum tubes on each side. These tubes were dismantled and reassembled with LED’s, one white and one blue. All the lighting features can be seen in the photos with a black background. The massive robust legs are assembled from salvaged industrial hardened steel machinist collets and collars. These are just some of the main components used to build this awesome robot.
Electro 38 is a handmade custom fabricated one-of-a-kind Robot sculpture. Each of the pieces were carefully selected and assembled to bring this robot sculpture to reality. He comes with his very own embossed Minutemen Series Dog Tags showing his name, nickname and the maker, Van Dusen Designworks. The 12 volt power-pack that lights the LED’s is also included and uses a standard US plug to power up.
