This Japanese ceramic Sake flask is the work of celebrated artist Hayashi Kotaro. The lovely Mino ware vessel has a loosely thrown form and uneven rim, giving the piece a natural organic look. This, along with the thick white feldspar glaze over soft painted bands of brown, make this and exceptionally attractive example of the artist work.
Hayashi Kotaro was born in Gifu Prefecture in 1947. Although he passed at the young age of 41, he had already became well known as a Mino ware artist. His pieces can be found in numerous private collections as well as many permanent collections in Japanese and international art museums.
The Hayashi Kotaro Japanese ceramic flask has the artist mark on the bottom. It comes with the original titled and signed wood box with tying rope, along with a stamped wrapping cloth in gold.
