This monumental art glass vessel is the work of American glass artist William Morris. Part of his Petroglyph series done in the 1980′s, this striking art glass vase is decorated with various forms of tribal petroglyphs. Emblazoned with primitive figures, the multi-color vessel is layered with rich colors of red, blue and green. The artist has also used metallics like gold and copper, to further enhance the beauty of this large scale piece of glass. He completes the work by encasing the whole vase in clear glass with various ridges and random rippled lines, as if it had been shaped by water. The artist signature and date of 1989, can be found on the underside edge.
William Morris is a world class glass artist. He was born in Carmel California and now resides in Seattle Washington, where he worked as Dale Chihuly’s master glassblower in the early 1980′s. His work can be found in permanent collection and museums around the world, including Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Louvre.
