This original John Paul Strain painting is a fine example of this incredible artist work. Titled The Scotsman And The Timberwolf, the painting hearkens back to the early years when the Scottish began immigrating to the United States. The hyper-realistic painting captures every detail of the early mountain man as he walks through the untouched forest of the Americas. The Scotsman is wearing a traditional Balmoral Bonnet, red and black plaid shirt and brown leather fringe pants with belt and pistol. On his shoulder he carries his wounded companion, a brown Timber Wolf.
This John Paul Strain original painting is truly amazing. Known as a historical artist, he captured and preserved this unique moment in American history. Attention to detail and authenticity in his paintings, is a hallmark of the artist work. This early painting is a superb example of that.
The gouache painting is an original and has the artist signature in the lower right corner. It appears to be mounted in its original frame, most likely from the artist. The painting is mounted under glass in a ornate gold frame with tan and red suede mats. Below the painting is a brass plaque with the title of the painting and the artist name. On the reverse is the artist original label, along with the title, artist signature and date 1992, written in ink in the artist hand.
