This colorful Corneille lithograph is titled Les Deux Femmes, the two women. The work is by Belgium born artist Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo, but was known simply as Corniellle. He was well known for his modern approach to art and was a cofounder of the CoBrA Group of artist, along with Karl appeal and Asger Jorn.
Les Deux Femmes was part of a 1979 suite of works titled “New York Rooms”. Each of the Corneille lithographs depicted women in various poses sitting chairs and sofas. The rooms have over the top wallpaper patterns in the background, all in vivid colors.
This Corneille lithograph is on Arches paper and has a Blind stamp of Atelier Dumas, New York, in the lower left. It is signed and dated in pencil in the lower center ‘Corneille 79’, as well as numbered ‘196/250’. The reverse is stamped London Arts Copyright 1979.
