This is a wonderful vintage leather football helmet with chin strap. The helmet is a blue black color and appears to be the original finish from the manufacturer. The style is an 8 strap fiber-reinforced helmet with square front forehead pad. The trim around the opening is a tan leather. The chin strap has two snaps that attach to the leather chin pad. The inside appears to be a foam rubber lining with the top having a 6 strap reinforced webbing also covered in foam. The inside padding is stamped All Sport. See close up photos of the inside.
The maker of this vintage leather football helmet is unknown. Since the mark on front pad is faint, the only other mark is the “All Sport” on the inside. Our thoughts are it’s MacGregor Goldsmith helmet, due to the design and rivets. Another possibility is the Wilson 8 Strap helmet. Whichever one it is, it’s exceptional and would make a handsome display for a sports memorabilia collector or the serious football fan.
