This elegant French Louis XIV giltwood wall mirror with its Bérainesque* appearance, has a wide beveled frame with exceptional carving. The arched crown is topped with an exuberant high relief trophy of war, flanked with an intricately carved and pierced floral motif. Note the large protruding feathers from the plumed military helmet as well as the double Eagle heads, flags and crossed quivers.
The rectangular frame is adorned with scrolling rinceau on a low relief diagonal patterned background. This is a very early mirror with construction showing the large tenons joining the corners of the frame. The frame was professionally regilded in the past and has a stunning burnished and matte gold leaf finish. The mirror plate is not original and has a 1″ beveled edge that can be seen in the photos. Generally used as a wall mirror, this French Louis XIV giltwood mirror smaller size lends itself for tabletop display as well.

CONDITION: Excellent antique condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. Slight age separations in the corners and the mirror has some minor discoloration as shown in the photos.
