Van Dusen Clockworks
Van Dusen Clockworks constructs one-of-a-kind functional artwork. Their pieces include sculptural and whimsical clocks, industrial lighting, folk art and robots. All assembled from antique and vintage items carefully selected from their extensive collection of beautiful objects. Each object tells it’s own story individually, but as Van Dusen Clockworks combine these objects together they create a new story.
A husband and wife team, Jon and Lisa Van Dusen both have graphic design backgrounds. They love to source parts from antique stores, flea markets, estate sales and farm auctions. Collectors for years, they live with vintage finds throughout their home.
Each piece they create, is constructed of found and made objects. Their timepieces are fully functional and use new quartz movement clocks. Some include hand carvings created by the Van Dusen themselves. All pieces are signed, named and numbered with a custom metal plate. Some larger pieces have vintage pocket-watch hang-tags, while others like the robots, have dog tags. The entire process for each work can take 60 to 80 hours. From sourcing and designing the objects, to engineering the seamless construction, they are truly a work of art.
